SHIATSU MASSAGE -
WORKING WITH MERIDIANS
AND ACUPUNCTURE POINTS

Shiatsu is a word meaning 'finger pressure' and is a massage based on Traditional Chinese Medicine.
I used to do the massage on a mat on the floor, but both my clients and I now prefer to use the massage table or a chair. The client remains fully clothed, no oils or creams are used.
The aim of shiatsu is to stimulate the smooth flow of Qi - usually understood to mean 'energy' - as a means to promote health. This is done through stretching, massage and working on specific points. We work the same points that acupuncturists do, but we use our fingers instead.

During the full body treatment, you lie on the plinth (massage table). I cover you with a sheet because it's easier to work with and more comfortable for you, the client. Then using a combination of massage and energy work, we warm and soften the muscles. I trace the meridians and use specific pressure points to facilitate the smooth flow of Qi along the channels, bringing relief to areas further up the limb.
I also do a seated 30 minute shiatsu treatment which is versitile and can be done anywhere. I earned a living doing this massage from a health shop for a few years. I've also worked in offices and at fairs and markets. I teach this massage over two days and need a minimum of two people to run the course. Current price R1500. April 2021 |

The pressure points have a wide scope of influence and can sometimes be sensitive.
After the treatment, my clients look and feel lighter, have more movement and leave feeling better than they did on arrival.
